The Canadian Associated Air Balance Council (CAABC) is a non-profit association of qualified, independent test and balance agencies. By the 1960's, the complexity of commercial Heating, Venting, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems exceeded the test and balance abilities of most HVAC contractors. As a result, testing and balancing emerged as a new specialty within the HVAC industry. Recognizing this trend and the valuable role of testing and balancing in finalizing construction projects, a small group of engineers met in 1965 to discuss ways of enhancing the reputation and technical skills of TAB professionals.
To promote these objectives, this group is affiliated with the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) in the United States. The overall objective is to establish stringent membership requirements that ensure members' objectivity, integrity, and technical expertise. To this day, CAABC's and AABC's foremost objective is to safeguard the reputation and competence of the Council and the TAB profession.
Independence is the cornerstone of CAABC. Member companies provide professional, unbiased, test and balance services. This is ensured by strictly prohibiting any affiliations with contractors, designing Engineers, and equipment manufacturers.
The association is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. The officers and directors perform a variety of functions to provide for the ongoing management and operation of the association and to ensure that AABC maintains the highest levels of quality assurance in the test and balance industry.
AABC member agencies are obliged to uphold the Council's Code of Professional Conduct. The Code defines standards of professional conduct expected of member agencies in their relationships with clients, colleagues, the public, and members of other construction trades. The Code is enforced by prompt investigation of alleged violations. Any member found in violation of the Code of Ethics is subject to disciplinary action.
As a further assurance for CAABC clients, the Council offers the National Performance Guaranty Program. It guarantees building owners and engineers that any CAABC firm hired will perform TAB work according to project specifications and the CAABC and AABC National Standards. Coverage under the Guaranty is automatic. It extends to all jobs by CAABC agencies without additional cost or paperwork for the client.
